Untitled Poem #76
Pictures and thoughts of you
Like a rising wave in the ocean
Find me engulfed in a vast, deep blue
Sinking under, I drown in emotion
Hints of auburn grace your hair
Soon my eyes are drawn to your cheeks
They flush rose as you catch my stare
I look away, can't help but peek
Walking at your side is tormenting
My hand within inches of yours
Still, the path of advance is fomenting
When my heart shall be newly moored
When a gust fills the sails I produced,
I find them to be solid as nets
Though the odds of success are reduced
Not trying is the greatest regret
I lay bare my feelings once more
In hopes of mutual declaration
"You're the one for me" I implore
Awaiting your reciprocation
The transition into a smile
Is the moment my heart always melts
Seeing your radiant joy for a while
Brings me comfort I rarely have felt
Wrapped in your arms, I imagine
Where no harm shall ever occur
Feeling through embrace your compassion
Hearing only a soothing whisper
God has not granted this desire
It's a curse as one in their prime
Seeming to find everywhere they conspire
Keeping lovers apart is a crime
Sitting together by a wooded trail
Watching the crows and the squirrels with intent
Reading the goosebumps on your arm like Braille
Telling me, for each other, we're meant
