Understanding Myself - Part 1 - Agreeableness

Agreeableness comprises both the aspects of Compassion and Politeness. Perhaps it is easiest to explain what high and low Agreeableness mean. People high in Agreeableness are 'nice', in that they are compliant, conflict avoidant, and are seen as cooperative. However, these people are susceptible to being taken advantage of (particularly by people low in Agreeableness), and can fall victim to hiding their emotions/opinions just 'to get along' with the group. Low Agreeableness is indicative of the opposite: being stubborn, competitive, and not afraid to say what's on one's mind. People low in Agreeableness are more effective at negotiating for their interests.

In overall Agreeableness, I rank at the 61st percentile, slightly above average. However, it's not as straightforward as that. As Agreeableness contains both Compassion and Politeness, we need to break it down another level to really understand me.

Let's start with the scores for both and we can see how each contributes: In Compassion, I rank at the 48th percentile, almost perfectly average. However, in Politeness, I rank at the 71st percentile, decently above average.

Compassion being very average means that I am neither cold and heartless, nor am I a bleeding heart pushover. If I were to have guessed my score blindly, I would have probably put myself around 60th percentile, but this result doesn't surprise me.

Politeness being moderately high means that I am deferential to authority and obedient. This score is indicative of conflict avoidance, to which I say 'yes'. This one makes a lot of sense to me. I find myself preferring strong authority over me, both in day to day life (e.g. my job) and when considering the world politically.

Overall takeaways here: This result makes a lot of sense to me. I recognise these aspects of myself being pointed out here and agree with the conclusion. I don't feel defensive about the result, nor do I feel a desire to change these parts of myself.

Yours Truly,
