UK... Are You OK?

People love to bash the United States. It's easy. They're a big target. But I wanted to take this opportunity to point some blame to the other side of the pond, the UK. What is going on over there?? Just this week I saw these stories:

Man arrested for possession of 'extreme music'. Article

No, not that the music was too loud or too awesome. In the process of amassing nearly 2000 records, and buying and selling untold numbers more, he came into possession of two albums that the courts deemed to be so bad, they warranted 40 months worth of prison.

Your right to trial by jury evaporated. Article

One man decided that, actually, he knows better than 800 years of British legal precedent and has announced that citizens should no longer expect a jury of their peers at their trial. Simply leave it to the magistrates. This can't possibly be interpreted as a brazen expansion of state power. How long before they take the judge out of the loop entirely and turn your fate over to an AI?

Pictures on holiday may have the coppers at your door. Article

A UK man on holiday in the USA thought he might partake in their national pastime: shooting guns. He took some pictures during his time shooting (quite poorly, I might add. Someone did a bad job of instructing him.) and posted them on his social media. Well, having that much fun had the cops coming to join him arrest him on the charges of stalking and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Even though these and additional charges have since been dropped, as they say: the process is the punishment.

And that's just this week. This stuff has been going on for too long and seems to be trending in the wrong direction.

Yours Truly,
