TV Rec: Peep Show

Here's one that's uncharacteristic of me. A recommendation for something that's not music. A TV series. It's called Peep Show, starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb. These two are a stunning duo. They've put together a handful of entertainment products: That Mitchell and Webb Look, along with That Mitchell and Webb Sound, The Mitchell and Webb Scenario, and their largest production, Peep Show on Channel 4 of the BBC.

First things first, as the name might imply, this show is NSFW (Not Safe For Work). Partly because of the sexual/obscene jokes, but also because of the unbearable amounts of cringe. Just know, if you watch this, you'll be sharply inhaling between gritted teeth and suffering untold amounts of second-hand embarrassment between the comedy bits. But it's intentionally cringe inducing. That's the trick. Both Mark and Jez (the two main characters) are meant to be relatable in their own way, while being total caricatures of themselves at other times.

Last bit, before I just tell you to watch it, is that it's filmed in a particular way. See, it's called Peep Show, because you watch the show through the eyes of the characters. It will switch back and forth between anyone involved in the scene, and when it's Mark or Jez, you'll occasionally get their thoughts as commentary as well. I find it really fascinating and think they pulled it off quite successfully.

Ok, that's all I've to say about it. Not sure where you might be able to find it streaming/for purchase, but if you do "sail the high seas" for it, it might be just that bit more enjoyable. As Super Hans says, "The secret ingredient is crime".

Yours Truly,
