Terminator Mindset

If you haven't seen Terminator, here's the quickest summary I can manage: Humanity in the future is fighting a war against robots. The robots send the Terminator back in time to find a woman (Sarah Connor) and kill her before she can give birth to the man who is leading the human resistance. The humans send a man back in time to protect Sarah from the Terminator. With that setup out of the way, here's the premise.

Someday in the future, there will be massive conflicts. Some might argue they're going on already. But nevertheless, looking into a crystal ball, 100 years from now, you might not like what you see. And so you have to place yourself in the future. What are you likely to be facing? What will you need to do at that point? And then the key idea here is that you then ask 'If I could go back in time 100 years, what would I do to prevent this?'

And here's the magic, by asking that question, you have now invented time travel. Because you're where you need to be: 100 years before the problem. SO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

No one told me that life was ever easy. No one said it'd be this hard.
