Ode to a Spider

There was a spider in the bathtub when I went to brush my teeth. I saw it first when I was in the bathroom earlier, maybe a few hours ago. It's still there. Stood in the corner. Not moving. It's alive, I checked. But it's making no attempt to escape. It's trapped, unless it finds the bathmat to climb. I stood and watched it. I thought about how it's fallen into a trap, the origins of which are so far beyond it. Is it not moving because it doesn't know it's trapped? Or because it knows efforts are futile? Where was it before it fell in? Where does it think it is now? Am I a spider? Caught in some massive trap, flailing about, unable to scale the walls. I wanted to help it. But where would it go? Normally I'd put it outside, but it's too cold for that now. So tomorrow my roommate will see it and "put it out of it's misery".
