Love on a Tightrope
You start by walking along a line on the ground
Just as you think that your love has been found
The next logical step, to me it would seem
Is to try out your skills on a low balance beam
You do this in love, not quite the same
By learning their story, knowing more than their name
With each careful step you say not to look down
Just concentrate up there, forget the hard ground
The ground's where you came from, lonely and cold
So you walk now together with loving hands to hold
Soon you work your way up to a towering place
And your skills put quite a grand smile on your face
But still don't forget what it's like to frown
Yet strive to walk on, avoiding looking down
The higher the rope, the greater your fear
Not knowing if your skills will be lasting up here
Conditions will change, the rope will soon sway
Or you'll find that it's longer or thinner this day
Hold on to each other, hold on 'til you know
That you'll withstand anything, even wind's mighty blow
It's times like these that matter the most
To determine who makes it and who ends up a ghost
