L and R
I recently dipped my toe into "politics" with my entry here.
I saw more political entries here on Bear and couldn't hold my tongue any longer.
I'm just gonna say it: When it comes to America (although this is pretty global at this point, but the US dominates news feeds for one reason or another), people on the "Left" and people on the "Right" live in totally opposite worlds.
People ostensibly on the "Left" (as it seems almost all of the political posts I've seen on Bear have been) are decrying the "rise of fascism". They claim that the "fascists" have "taken over" media. I saw one post about how "Fascists rewrite history"... I nearly laughed out loud. So the people at the BBC who cast a Black woman as Anne Boleyn⤻ are Fascists. The writers of Doctor Who, casting an Indian man as Sir Isaac Newton⤻ are revealing their Nazi tendencies. The casting of Blacks⤻ to play all the lead roles of the historical figures (all of which were White) in Hamilton1 was done because they want to bring about far-right policy. Give me (and my sides) a break.
If you consider yourself "left leaning" and are concerned with this purported "fascist/White supremacist takeover of the US government", I want you to be honest with yourself. If you're watching a TV series, have you seen a Pro-Fascist episode? Is Activision making video games where the Nazis⤻ are the good guys⤻? Is the plot of Star Wars (one of, if not THE, largest movie franchises all time) pro-Rebel (diverse, multi-species group of heroes) or pro-Empire (uniform, all white, obvious stand in for fascist Europe⤻)?
And it's not just media. Are giant corporations backing the cause⤻ of these Fascists? Are colleges offering race based scholarships for African-Americans⤻ or Whites2⤻? Is the USA's largest city providing networking opportunities, non-competitive $1.5 million contracts, and free advertising to all businesses or just those owned by minorities and women?
All of this is going on, sanctioned by the "fascist, White supremacist" government. And somehow people are still posting that we're on the verge of the removal of civil rights for minorities and women. As if decades of policy and momentum can be undone by a single president (who seems incapable of doing even the things he says he's going to do, let alone something of this scale).
Maybe you should give people on the "Right" some slight bit of a break when they tell you about the world they live in. It's honestly hard to believe there's any right wing people at this point... and I'd argue there aren't: a vast majority of them hold the views the "Left" held in 1990. How many times have you heard "I didn't leave the Left, the Left left me!" from someone you'd now consider "fascist"? So if that means what they intend it to mean (they can't ALL be lying), that they've held relatively stable political views over that time period... then everyone in the 90s was Fascist or even further right than that. I dare you to find clips of [insert Left wing politician here] from 1990 and compare them to the rhetoric of the Right wing today. Do you see how this works?
TV series. Movies. Companies. Everything you interact with on a daily basis is left wing propaganda (and if it's not outright, it's certainly not fascist propaganda). At some point you have to sit for a moment and ask yourself: Are things more left wing or right wing than they were 20, 40, 80 years ago? "Zoom out the graph" as they say. Are you going to tell me that nearly a century of political momentum has truly and fully reversed, or are we simply witnessing a "dead cat bounce"⤻ after which the trends will continue as usual?
I'm not here to bash exclusively people on the "Left". People on the "Right" are guilty of the same things in their own way. But I am honestly yet to see anyone on Bear express any view even vaguely "right wing"... which again reinforces my point from before. Everything you are being exposed to is from the "Left": even your independent, small web blogosphere. If you work an office job, tell someone you're a bit of a communist. Then tell someone else you're a bit of a fascist. Note who reports you to HR. All this to say, if you're on the "Left", you're winning, have been for a long time, and will likely continue to for the foreseeable future.
Yours Truly,
