Initiation Required
I've always been the friend who reaches out first. Ever since I was a kid, I was the one who would open a phonebook, call the house, talk to their parents, and ask "Is [redacted] free today?" As we got older, eventually people got their own phone number and I could talk directly to them without needing to go through their parents. But it stayed the same. Me and my friend group would almost only hang out if I planned it. Others just would never initiate.
And after school ended and everyone got cell phones and social media... still nothing changed. There's people from school I just haven't heard from in years. Even worse, the people I do reach out to and don't hear back from. That just breaks my heart.
I'd love for one of my old friends, or even just someone who remembers my name from class but never was part of my friend group, to reach out and say hello. Every so often I get the urge to do it myself. Just try to find someone I half knew from school and send them a message. But the thought just makes me bitter honestly. All this time and people never reached out to me. All these years and no one seems to remember or care if I'm alive. Even people I was close with. Just leaving my messages on read.
Yours Truly,
