All Man Feels
Is love not all that a man can feel?
No other emotion explains so much
Why for king and for God he is willing to kneel
Why he shudders and stammers at a lover's soft touch
To throw down his life at a word from above
To be gentle and nurture a family for years
The reason he wakes is for nothing but love
For love gives him strength and brings him to tears
Anger is only a denial of sorts
Held from his desire, blocked by a maze
But not to be bested, he continues to court
Setting all obstacles he encounters ablaze
A simple creature, a man can be
Or complex if it seems to his gain
What's between him and his love is his sole enemy
From what furthers his quest, he never abstains
It brings his mind to thoughts resolute
Or turns his brain into mush like a blight
Makes him vicious and vengeful, a terrible brute
Or compassionate, caring, a terrific delight
So if it's not love, what then does he feel?
With immeasurable depth and consequent range
You know it to be true, if not, then appeal
But I love this debate, and my mind you'll not change
