A Letter Unsent

Though I write you now from far away
Know that I always keep thoughts of you close
While I expect this to reach you not without delay
I do hope that this letter's a fine sample of prose

My thoughts of you are unceasing
They boil over at the slightest sensation
And though the distance between us seems ever increasing
The contact we have brings me naught but elation

Yet with pen in my hand, I write truth in these words
Words I have dared not to speak
Sitting writing a song like a common catbird
Hoping the way that I mew is not overly meek

Seafoam on the waves is the green of your eyes
Like jewels that adorn your fine gaze
So too does the hair you have flow by your side
A sight the most cynical could nary appraise

If you've not guessed my intentions, I'll lay them out here:
You're lovely, unique, and quite handsome
For I want to spend my days keeping you near
And wish neither of us to be lonesome

I do not expect this alone shall work
It seems too little, too late for this chance
And I pray that you find this not the act of a jerk
But rather that of a man who seeks simply your glance

So write back or not, but please don't disappear
I find myself your humblest debtor
But I simply would covet a reply, to be clear
If you found words to put forth in a perfume scented letter

So I leave you with this, an apology of sorts
I beg for your pardon to ease my consternation
If you don't feel the same or don't wish that I court
Then consider this my formal resignation

I'm sorry that I hid these feelings I had
Lying by omission is still lying and wrong
But I'm realizing you had been driving me mad
And that love was the feeling I felt all along
