Eighty-two years ago, Operation Neptune saw the Allies storming the beaches of Normandy, France as the full strength campaign of Operation Overlord to liberate France began in earnest. I sometimes wonder about what it could have been like, on both sides. To be loaded on a landing craft, motoring toward a heavily defended beach, knowing that when the doors open, it's a a roll of the dice whether you make it or not. Or conversely, to be situated in a bunker, overlooking the beach, withstanding air and naval bombardment, watching as the largest amphibious invasion of history happens right in front of you, approaching like a tsunami wave to wash you away.
Where do you find men of such mettle? Are there any left? Or were they all lost in wars of the past?
Just wanted to take a moment and pay some respect to those men of great valour.
Yours Truly,
